Sammy D. Rivas, M.D.

Dr. Rivas earned his bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science at Texas Tech University Health Science Center and his M.D. degree at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. He completed his residency in general surgery at Texas Tech University Health Science Center (at UMC). He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgery. Dr. Rivas joined Drs. Woolam and Mangold after completing his residency, then joining Lubbock Surgical Associates. He spent three years in Albuquerque, NM as an Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery at University of New Mexico Health Science Center, while his wife completed her fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Rivas was the Medical Student Director of the Department of Surgery while at UNM. Dr. Rivas returned to Lubbock to rejoin Lubbock Surgical Associates, while his wife joined Pulmonary Associates of Lubbock.

Dr. Rivas is a long standing resident of Lubbock, as he graduated from Monterey High School. He and his wife Dr. Shannon Rivas have a daughter, and son. Dr. Rivas enjoys spending time with his family and working out at the gym.
